Guidelines for the divisions of KHP

We currently accept:

Genres of romance, contemporary, historical, paranormal, fantasy, science-fiction, speculative, women's fiction, mystery, suspense, western, regency
Stories should be well-rounded with meaningful characters and romantic elements. "Experimental" narrative is okay. Look over our philosophy statements to see if you think your piece would be a good fit for KHP
The Main Characters should consider themselves to be "New Adults," which generally means they are 18-28 in age, particularly early 20s, but they may be between 16-33
Excerpts from longer pieces, so long as they can stand on their own
Simultaneous Submissions are okay, but if your work is accepted elsewhere, you must let us know ASAP
Multiple submissions are okay
Must be written in the English Language, preferably American English, but British English is also acceptable. Brief sentences or words in a different language are acceptable if fitting the character and/or situation

Format: MS Word Document or PDF. If accepted, we will request for it in MS Word Document
Word Count: 1,000 to 15,000 (you may go slightly under or over)
We do not take a submission or subsequent editing fee at this time
E-mail with the document as an attachment
Subject line of e-mail: Journal Sub [Title of Submission] {Your Name]
In body of e-mail: include your name, submission title, genre, word count, brief bio, and disclose if under 18 yrs old
If submitting more than one story, include the individual stories as separate attachments in one e-mail

We accept rolling submissions. We do not fill issues by the date of submissions but by the quantity (and quality). We fill one issue at a time and then move to the next. We aim to respond within 3 months; after that time, feel free to query about your submission's status.

Fine Print:

For The Literary Journal: In submitting Work for publication:

Writer grants KHP a first-rights license to the copyrighted accepted submission Work to publish the Work in print and digital. Writer maintains copyright ownership to Writer's Work;
Writer grants KHP an exclusivity period where Writer will not publish the Work in any media form elsewhere until after six months of publication with KHP;
Writer grants KHP permission for our in-house editors to edit Work and offer suggestions. KHP may make minor formatting or punctuation editing changes to fit the style of our publication. For any other type of editing, which includes but it not limited to line, style, or developmental editing, KHP editors will collaborate with Writer, and Writer will have final approval of any changes made to Work;
Writer understands that at this time KHP is unable to compensate payment for writers at this time. We hope one day this will change;
KHP maintains the right to revoke acceptance and not publish Work if KHP learns Work goes against KHP's guidelines, which includes but is not limited to Writer not having copyright ownership and Writer using AI to write/generate/create Work.

If Writer later reprints the story, KHP kindly asks for acknowledgments that the story first appeared with KHP.
